Sunwaters Grill

Even though Summer 2010 is slowly drawing to a close, I actually find that my favorite time of the year for the beach is September.  The crowds are smaller, the UV index is lower and the water tends to be warmer than earlier in the season.  There is definitely something to be said for spending at day at the shore after Labor Day.

Dinner at the shore?  Thanks to a suggestion by Sue and Allan Cohen, I discovered a real bargain, and delicious seafood to boot!  Sunwaters Grill on Dune Road in Hampton Bays has a special on Mondays and Tuesdays; twin 1-1/4 pound steamed lobsters, with an ear of corn and potato or rice (order the baked potato…rubbed with Old Bay and roasted…really good!) for $24.95.  The lobsters were fresh and sweet, served with a cup of melted butter for dipping.  The shells are split, so that minimal effort is needed to extract the sweet meat.  The accompanying corn was fresh and sweet as well.  On one visit I ordered a dozen little necks that were a perfect size, properly briny and served on a bed of ice.  We also enjoyed an order of fried calamari that was tender and tasty, served with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.  But avoid the baked stuffed clams…much too bready!

The lobster was wonderful, the beer was cold, the price was right and the second story location provides a wonderful view of the Atlantic!  What a great way to spend a late summer / early autumn evening. But what do I know…this is, after all, just One Man’s Opinion.
