Summer al Fresco Dining

Another post, and what to review? Joanne & I were dining out on a particularly delightful early summer evening when it occurred to me that I should suggest my favorite evening “al fresco” dining spots. Here is a collection of my favorites within an easy drive of Encore. Some have been reviewed in this space and some are new, but all are really fun on a warm summer evening…in my opinion, of course.

I think my favorite is the Farm Country Kitchen, 513 West Main Street, Riverhead. Dinner has changed a bit since I last reviewed this spot. They have acquired an automatic dish washer, hence the “real” dishes and utensils. FCK is still BYO, but elegant wine glasses are provided and there is no corkage fee. For a lighter libation, I strongly suggest the “Arnold Palmer,” house made iced tea mixed with lemonade. The culinary creations are super fresh as always and the setting on the Peconic is charming at dusk.

Another favorite on West Main Street is Buoy One, 1175 West Main Street, Riverhead. Dining there in the chillier season was good because of the great seafood fare, but in the summer, dining al fresco on the patio is pure joy. My personal favorite here is whatever fish that is offered with Thai glaze, accompanied by jasmine rice and sautéed baby spinach (I’m a spinach junkie!), as are the Asian mussels.

Just up the road is the Roadhouse Pizza, 1111West Main Street, Riverhead. While most patrons order their pizza and dine indoors, you can have your order delivered to the picnic tables behind the parking lot. The fun thing is that these tables are within a few feet of a narrow section of the Peconic River. The night that we dined there we had a conversation with some kayakers and witnessed the appearance of a deer on the opposite shore of the river. Absolutely charming!

In this neighborhood, of course, is my all time favorite post dinner spot, Snowflake Ice Cream Shoppe at 1148 W Main Street. Enough said…ice cream par excellence!

Al Fresco dining on a warm summer evening. This is my invitation to enjoy all of the wonderful spots that provide outdoor dinner service. Absolute Heaven!!! But this is, after all, simply One Man’s Opinion!
